The United States annexed Puerto Rico, so Puerto Rico is now part of the United States.

When we annexed Puerto Rico, it was a territory. Today, it is still a territory.

The U.S. supported a rebellion that enabled Panama to separate itself from colombia and establish a new nation. In return, the U.S. was granted control of a strip of land 10 miles wide running from coast to coast in Panama. There, the U.S. built the Panama Canal; opened in 1914.
